The work involves responsibility for all personal computers and communication lines including installation and testing of new equipment, diagnosis and repair problems with computer boards, hard disks, floppy drives, monitors and printers. Unlike a Computer Equipment Maintenance Specialist, an employee in this class performs technical repairs and upgrades to the computer system hardware; investigates problems with the aid of diagnostic software disks, logic probes, voltmeters and oscilloscopes. An employee in this class is a member of an automation team and is responsible for planning and managing large-scale installation projects. Supervision is received from an administrative supervisor but an employee in this class will function independently, with little supervision over the technological aspects of his/her job. Although an employee in this class instructs others on the proper use of the computer equipment, supervision is not a function of this position. This class differs from that of entry-level Computer Repair Technicians by the more complex task of planning and managing installation projects. Does related work as required.
