LEAD SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

This position is responsible for providing systems support including the maintenance and upgrades to hardware, software, and networks. Leads the systems administration team to accomplish these initiatives while working with project leads and/or management to meet requirements. This position assigns team members tasks, directs their activities, and may be responsible for supervising the systems administration team. Does related work as required
Coordinates the day to day operation of enterprise system(s). This includes both internal and external resources. Ensures plans, policies, and procedures are understood and adhered to.
Assist management with strategy and budget items for improvement, upgrades or replacements.
Plans and supports the design, installation and configuration of technical solutions for system implementation and upgrades.
Act as the project lead and trainer on various information technology initiatives.
Provides high level analysis, performance, capacity reviews, and subject matter expertise in technology and design.
Manages the installation of new software releases, system upgrades, integration points and resolve software related problems.
Maintains a secure systems administration environment.
Thorough knowledge of information systems, principles and methods of application.
Thorough knowledge of network hardware and software.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of systems analysis and system design.
Thorough knowledge of architectural considerations involved when virtualizing systems.
Thorough knowledge of information security principles, policies, and practices.
Good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of information technology related business analysis.
Good knowledge of basic repair and maintenance of computer equipment.
Good knowledge of file structure, design, access methods and control, and information retrieval techniques.
Good knowledge of the principles and practices of software installation and the configuration of personal computers.
Good knowledge of database administration.
Ability to learn and use new hardware and software products and to adapt to new concepts.
Ability to work effectively with department staff from multiple agencies, computer technical staff, and outside vendors.
Promotion:
Three (3) years of permanent competitive class status in the title of Sr. Systems Administrator.
Open Competitive:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a baccalaureate degree, or higher, in computer science and two (2) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in systems administration; or,
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate’s degree, or higher, in computer science and four (4) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in systems administration; or,
C. Six (6) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in systems administration.
