DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

             The position is responsible for oversight of the administration of complex, multifaceted program and initiatives, some of which may be cross-divisional or interdepartmental in scope.  Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.  Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

             Assists in setting departmental and community-wide strategy, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

             Exercises independent leadership and coordinates with leaders from other County departments and external partner agencies to achieve shared strategic objectives.

             Oversees monitoring and evaluation activities.

             Ensures compliance with all contracts, grant funding and other requirements.

             Interprets local, State and Federal policies and regulations that may impact programs.

             Communicates policy decisions and changes to stakeholders and the public.

             Directs program activities to address health disparities and promote equity.

             Models appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyles and physical abilities.

             Participates in public health preparedness activities as trained and assigned.

             Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of public health administration.

             Thorough knowledge of current public health challenges relation to the specific program/initiative.  

             Thorough knowledge of existing internal and external stakeholders within the specific program/initiative.

             Thorough understanding of the root causes of health disparities and health inequities.

             Ability to supervise, motivate and evaluate a number of employees in separate program and service areas.

             Ability to work effectively with staff, public officials, civic groups, community agencies and other stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

                    Promotion

                  Two (2) years of permanent, competitive-class status in the title of Program Coordinator II (Health).  

                 Open-competitive

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher in public health, health administration or a closely related field and five (5) years of professional-level work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in public health or public administration, two (2) years of which must have involved administrative oversight of a public health program.
