DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for identifying, creating, and implementing Onondaga County’s business solutions for Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) with the goal of enhancing the outcomes of small and disadvantaged businesses. The incumbent manages programs designed to aid business clients with certifications, trainings, business analysis, mentorships, professional development services, access to and how to safeguard against the loss of capital, and notary services. The Director oversees and directs the work of all subordinates in developing innovative approaches which address areas of concern for businesses. The Director works in collaboration with other agencies to bring the highest-level services to business clients. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Diversity Officer with wide leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out program objectives, the establishment of internal procedures and schedules and supervision and evaluation of staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Designs and implements programs to meet client needs; monitors and evaluates program operations to determine compliance with program goals; recommends strategies, modifications, or enhancements to programs to continually maintain or improve the quality of outcomes.
Meets with leaders from community groups and organizations, local businesses and industries, and other government agencies to increase community understanding of One Stop Shop and its role in helping businesses and maintaining a working relationship with these representatives.
Plans, directs and evaluates daily office operations, including goals, training, scheduling, and supervision of subordinate staff members.
Works with the Chief Diversity Officer in preparing press releases for the media.
Represents the One Stop Shop in the general community and at various meetings and events.
Researches and assists in the development, writing, and submission of grant applications for federal, state, and other grant funding.
Assists subordinates in the solution of complex problems.

Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of business management, industrial development, marketing, and sales knowledge of economics, forecasting, and risk/benefits analysis.
