SENIOR EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT (DISTRICT ATTORNEY)
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The Senior Executive Assistant serves as a personal and confidential assistant to the District Attorney. The work is completed under the direct supervision of the District Attorney. The position requires interaction with co-workers, local, state and federal government employees, high-ranking local, state and federal elected officials, travel agents, the media, businesses, law enforcement agencies and the general public. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Handles correspondence for the District Attorney including opening, distributing and sorting mail, typing correspondence and preparing memoranda.
Receives and places phone calls for the District Attorney, including handling complaint calls and resolving problems.
Assists in scheduling meetings and organizing travel for the District Attorney.
Assists in processing news releases issued by the District Attorney and publishes releases on the internet.
Serves as a legal assistant to the District Attorney during criminal prosecutions, including coordinating all trial and motion activities, organizing and compiling discovery materials, helping with PowerPoint presentations and transcribing interrogation tapes and jail calls.
Acts as a liaison with the National District Attorney’s Association, New York State District Attorney’s Association, NYPTI and other elected officials.
Attends community meetings and outreach events with the District Attorney for purposes of coordination of future meetings and follow up activities.

Thorough knowledge of the purposes, principles, terminology and practices employed in an office environment.
Thorough knowledge of local and state law, procedures and policies as they relate to the mission of the department.
Working knowledge of the purposes, principles, terminology and practices employed in the media, journalism and public relations.
Working knowledge of a wide variety of media and public relations concepts, including political speechwriting, ethics and public speaking.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work with the District Attorney, senior staff and all employees.
Ability to operate basic computer hardware and software applications.
Ability to create and edit PowerPoint presentations.
Ability to transcribe audio and video tapes in a timely manner.
