This position is responsible for coordinating the work of internal and external resources to support the enterprise network. Provides high level expertise on design and technology. Maintains a secure and reliable enterprise network and provides technical assistance in resolving enterprise network issues. No direct supervision is exercised. Does related work as required.
Plans and supports the design, installation and configuration of technical solutions for system implementation and upgrades.
Coordinates the day-to-day operation of the enterprise network; this includes both internal and external resources. Ensures that plans, policies and procedures are understood and adhered to.
Works with customers and vendors to solve complex, technical system problems in a timely manner.
Maintains a secure environment for the server and LAN/WAN communication equipment.
Provides high-level analysis, performance, capacity reviews and subject matter expertise in technology and design.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) administration
Thorough knowledge of network hardware and software.
Thorough knowledge of wireless technology, equipment and protocols.
Ability to plan and coordinate the work of network administrators and technical staff in the support of enterprise network.
Ability to monitor industry trends and technologies in order to recommend and apply these technologies as they emerge.
Ability to adapt to change and working with tight deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
Promotion:
Three (3) years of permanent competitive class status in the title of Sr. Systems Administrator.
Open Competitive:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university to grant degrees with a baccalaureate degree, or higher, in computer science or a closely related field and three (3) years of work experience in network related support activities; or,
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate’s degree, or higher, in computer science and five (5) years of work experience in network related support activities; or,
C. Seven (7) years of work experience in network related support activities.
