This is an administrative position responsible for overseeing and administering a comprehensive health services program in a large school district. The employee is responsible for the daily program delivery and implementing medical services and directives. The employee is responsible in implementing programs to maintain wellness among the student population. Administrative supervision is received by the Chief Human Resource Officer. Supervision is exercised over a number of nurses, therapists, aides and clerical staff. Does related work as required.
Leads the school health services program.
Supervises all members of the Health Services Division.
Assists in setting policies, guidelines and directions for the medical staff of a large school district.
Investigates and defines many of the problems in the School Health Program with primary emphasis in the area of school nursing.
Prepares and carries out the agenda for scheduled monthly departmental staff meetings.
Interviews perspective applicants to the Health Services Department and make recommendations to the Department of Human Resources.
Participates in the organization, scheduling, staffing and operating various clinics, immunizations and other health related programs.
Assumes responsibility for emergency coverage for nursing services.
Participates in organizing and implementing professional nursing in service training programs.
Assists in the preparation of a variety of reports and budget requests.
Plans, implements and evaluates programs with School of Nursing for student training.
Requisitions supplies and maintains inventory of paperwork associated with the school health service.
Prepares and updates communications to staff, parents and community on health information or related issues.
Plans, develops, and implements a comprehensive health services program which assesses needs of students, establishes objectives and priorities, delegates responsibilities to staff, develops strategies to achieve objectives and continually evaluates programs.
Works with the Department of Humans Resources to ensure full staffing of all nurse positions and other health related positions district-wide.
Manages Health Services budget for district and nonpublic schools.
Ensures proper maintenance of student health records.
Plans, organizes and implements orientation and training for health services staff.
Serves as a resource to staff and monitors daily health services activities.
Ensures proper communication with health services staff.
Ensures compliance with state and federal laws as they relate to Health Services in the school district.
Recommends and implements health service procedures for medical emergencies, referrals, communicable diseases and other health related concerns.
May also work alongside various community partners addressing health issues of the student of the school district.
Oversees employee health services in collaboration with Humans Resources and the District’s Medical Director.
Acts as District Liaison for the School Based Health Center Program.
Good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practices.
Good knowledge of materia-medica, dietetics, sanitation and personal hygiene.
Good knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques in nursing administration.
Skill in the application of nursing techniques and practices.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of school nurses and other staff within the Health Services Unit.
Ability to understand and follow technical oral and written instructions.
Ability to keep records and make reports.
Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with students, parents, school staff and physicians.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to perform duties in accordance with the ANA Code of Professional Nurses.
