DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

The work involves responsibility for the repair and maintenance of a variety of electric and electronic, and audio-visual equipment. Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for the maintenance and repair of a variety of audio-visual and electronic equipment. The employee normally does not maintain closed circuit television, its components or related equipment but may be given this assignment depending on location and staffing patterns. Work is performed according to a basic outline set down by an administrative superior, with complete responsibility for innovation, planning and implementing of programs within that outline. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior. Does related work as required.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Repairs and maintains audio-visual equipment including 16mm projectors, overhead projectors, filmstrip projectors, opaque projectors, record players, and cassette tape recorders.

Cleans and lubricates all equipment.

Repairs malfunctioning and broken equipment.

Replaces parts including burnt out bulbs in projectors.

Establishes priorities as to repairs and schedules work routine for maximum use of time and equipment within guidelines set by supervisor.

Performs preventive maintenance and runs diagnostics on microcomputers and their peripherals.

Keeps a record of all repairs and preventative maintenance performed on all pieces of equipment.

Informs supervisor of need to order parts and may keep a simple inventory record.

May give instructions in use and simple maintenance of equipment.

May be responsible for loaning equipment and keeping record of loans.

 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

 

Good knowledge of audio-visual equipment repair and maintenance practices.

Working knowledge of simple electronic test equipment and its application.

Working knowledge of computer terminal maintenance and repair practices.

Working knowledge of microcomputer maintenance practices.

Ability to read and interpret diagrams and repair manuals.

Ability to isolate equipment malfunctions quickly and accurately.

Ability to establish and maintain a preventive maintenance program.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to give simple instructions in the operation of audio-visual equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associates Degree in electrical technology, electronic technology, electronics, or a curriculum closely related to repair and maintenance of electronic equipment; or,

 

2. Two (2) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in the maintenance and repair of audio-visual equipment; or,

 

C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by (A) and (B).
