DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is unskilled manual work involving the operation of stationary equipment in a solid waste disposal operation. Under the general supervision of working supervisor, the employee operates machines in a stationary position requiring minimal control. The work primarily involves activating a packing machine with automatic and semi‑automatic controls, but includes other manual labor such as cleanup of area around machine. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Operates a stationary material‑handling machine utilizing buttons or hand switches to activate.
Hooks and unhooks trucks on and off the packing machine.
Reports to supervisor on operating status (condition) of machine.
Cleans area around machinery.
Assists in making repairs to machine, such as replacing signal lights, greasing fixtures and checking oil.
Records minimal data on operation, such as time worked, started, and stopped, identification of equipment worked with, transport vehicle numbers, etc.
Performs general manual labor as assigned when machine is not in operation.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of basic machine operation.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read and write.
Physical condition commensurate with demands of the position.
