(Non-Competitive)
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is semi-skilled and unskilled manual work performed in the fabrication,
erection, maintenance and repair of electrically operated traffic signal heads, controllers, foundations, conduits, poles and so on. The nature of the work requires considerable strength and agility. Some assignments may require skill readily
learned on the job. Many tasks are routine and once learned can be performed without difficulty and under general supervision. Assignments are typically received in verbal form and may be supplemented by sketches. All work is subject to inspection in progress and upon completion by supervisory personnel. The nature of the work may require employees to work emergency situations at odd hours and to be scheduled for emergency calls during non-working hours.
When assigned to Onondaga County Department of Transportation, employees in this class also perform a variety of tasks involved in both the fabrication, erection and maintenance of traffic signs and the painting of road markings. When assigned to the City of Syracuse Department of Public Works, employees in this class typically do not perform this function, except in emergency situations where highway safety is in jeopardy.
