DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS


Work involves assisting the Aviation Project Officer in documenting existing conditions of the physical facilities at the Syracuse Hancock International Airport and in planning certain aspects of maintenance, construction and engineering projects for the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority. Successful job performance requires knowledge of building systems (e.g., electrical, HVAC, plumbing), materials and construction procedures. The incumbent is expected to work independently under general direction of the Aviation Project Officer. Does related work as required.


TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES


Documents existing conditions of building systems at the Syracuse Hancock International Airport, using personal computers and various software programs, where appropriate.

Conveys information regarding existing building systems to other employees, outside contractors, architects/engineers, etc. who require this information.

Assists the Aviation Project Officer in planning construction and renovation projects.

Assists the Aviation Project Officer in identifying and reporting the need for repair or replacement of Authority building systems to develop an ongoing capital repair/replacement program.


FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS


Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of building systems design.

Thorough knowledge of building systems within the buildings operated by the SRAA.

Ability to work effectively with other employees, contractors, and architects/engineers.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to read and interpret a variety of blue prints, plans, specifications applicable to building systems.

Good knowledge of computer applications within the field of facilities engineering as related to computer drawing and records maintenance.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or on accredited by the New York

State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a baccalaureate degree in engineering science, engineering technology, construction technology, architecture or a closely related field, or


B) Completion of approved journeyman certification apprenticeship program in one of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, or HVAC; and, five (5) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in a commercial airport in a position primarily involved with design, construction, and/or maintenance of building systems.
