The work involves responsibility for laying out and overseeing the work of journey level Electricians and performing journey level work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. This is skilled work involving the efficient and effective performance of skilled electrical repair and maintenance tasks, and the supervision of others engaged in similar work. Assignments are outlined in general terms requiring the exercise of independent judgment in planning the details of jobs. Assignments are checked by review of reports and by inspection of work. General supervision is exercised over the work of Electricians and helpers to whom specific assignments are made and whose work is checked in progress and upon completion. Does related work as required.

Receives work orders for electrical work
Prepares working plans, schedules work and assigns work orders to subordinates.
Installs, repairs and maintains electrical motors, generators, time clocks, relays, switches, HVAC. controls, variable frequency drives, sensors, control boxes and fuse boxes.
Installs, repairs and maintains electrical appliances in buildings.
Maintains fire alarm systems.
Wires and installs light fixtures, receptacles, air conditioners and oil burners.
Lays out and installs new wiring systems in public buildings.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the electrical trade.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of electricity.
Good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade and of work with high voltage.
Good knowledge of the electrical codes effective in Onondaga County.
Skill in the care and use of standard tools, equipment and testing devices of the electrical trade.
Ability to install, alter, repair, maintain and locate defects in a variety of electrical equipment and systems.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates.
Ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to solicit quotes from vendors for materials and services as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Promotion:
Two (2) years of permanent non-competitive class status as an Electrician.
Open Competitive:
Five (5) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, as an Electrician, three (3) years of which must have been journey level.
