GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

 

Supervises and participates in painting buildings, fixtures and various equipment; performs related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

Under general supervision, work involves responsibility for assigning and supervising the painting of a variety of services. Work is checked through occasional inspection in progress and by the quality of work done.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

 

Lays out, assigns, and supervises the work of skilled painters.

Supervises the mixing and matching of paints and stains using the proper proportion of pigment, base and thinner.

Personally performs skilled painting such as interiors and exteriors of buildings, walls, ceiling, floors and cabinets.

Maintains inventory of painting supplies and equipment to insure proper care.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ADILITIES

 

Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools and practices of the painting trade.

Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.

Skill in the use and care of spray guns, paint brushes and other equipment of the painting trade.

Skill in the mixing of paints and matching of colors.

Ability to supervise and instruct skilled painters in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to work at considerable heights.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Six years of full time paid work experience as a journey level painter.
