The work involves responsibility for supervising and participating in the work of a unit of electronic equipment repair technicians and audio-visual equipment repair staff to insure the efficient and effective utilization and availability of electronic equipment. Work involves the coordination of repairs with staff or vendors and the tracking and monitoring of repairs of electronic equipment including personal computers and audio-visual equipment. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who allows the incumbent leeway in the exercise of independent action and initiative. An employee in this class is responsible to supervise a unit of employees involved in the repair and maintenance of audio-visual, electronic equipment and personal computers. Does related work as required.
Coordinates, supervises and participates in the work of electronic equipment repair workers and audio-visual staff.
Working with staff, diagnoses problems with the equipment and ascertains the most efficient and cost effective method for solving them.
Investigates problems using diagnostic software, voltmeters logic probes and oscilloscopes.
Repairs electronic equipment such as personal computers, audio visual equipment, closed circuit television equipment, public address systems, tape recorders, projection equipment, intercoms, and any other electronic or audio visual item that requires repair.
Installs, checks and tests new equipment for reliability, use and function.
Troubleshoots and repairs problems with computer boards, hard disks, floppy drives, monitors and peripherals.
Recommends purchases of necessary equipment and may assist in the preparation of bids or purchase orders.
Works with professional technology personnel to design, develop and maintain a system to track and monitor electronic equipment repairs.
Works with other technology staff in the planning, implementing and maintaining of technology services.
Works with service vendors to coordinate support of existing and future repair contracts.
Instructs personnel in the proper use of equipment.
Keeps current with changing technology.
Thorough knowledge of electronic circuitry including integrated circuits.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of electronic technology as applied to trouble shooting procedures and preventative maintenance.
Good knowledge of all types of electronic test equipment and its proper allocation.
Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of supervision.
Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams.
Ability to design or modify simple circuits.
Ability to isolate electronic malfunctions quickly and accurately.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
PROMOTION: Two (2) years of permanent competitive class status in the title of Electronic Equipment Technician.
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate degree in electrical or electronic technology, or a closely related field and four (4) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in large scale maintenance of electronic equipment ; or,
B. Successful completion of a training program from a recognized technical training school in electrical or electronic technology or repair and five (5) years of work experience in large scale maintenance of electronic equipment; or,
Six (6) years of work experience in large scale maintenance of electronic equipment; or,
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A, B, and C above.
