DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

The work involves responsibility for performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in connection with the maintenance and repair of all facilities and equipment at a municipal airport. The employee keeps the airport facilities hazard free and its buildings and grounds attractive and in good repair. Work involves the operation of motor equipment of heavy weight as well as the operation of heavy snow removal equipment. An employee in this class is on call under assigned supervision for emergency and snow removal activities. Does related work as required.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Assists in performing routine carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating and electrical work.

 

Inspects and repairs black top roadways and taxiways, roofs, storm drains, and pumps.

 

Does routine grounds keeping such as cutting grass, raking, weeding and trimming shrubbery.

 

Washes and paints walls, signs, floors and windows.

 

Operates and repairs plows, sweepers, dump trucks, tractors, sanders and other heavy equipment.

 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

 

Working knowledge of the practices, tools and materials used in large scale general maintenance and repair of airport buildings, roadways and grounds.

 

Skill in one or more of the construction or mechanical trades.

 

Ability to operate and maintain motor and heavy equipment used in airport maintenance work.

 

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

OPEN COMPETITIVE:

 

A) One (1) year of maintenance work, or its part-time equivalent, in one (1) or more of the building or mechanical trades; or,

B) One (1) year of maintenance work, or its part-time equivalent, in property maintenance, landscaping, and/or snow-plowing.

 

SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT:

 

At time of appointment, possession of a valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) license with appropriate endorsements as required by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for the class of vehicle being operated ; or, a permit to obtain such license.

 

Within one (1) year of appointment, must obtain a valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL).
