DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for performing specialized manual work in a variety of tasks related to cleaning and maintenance of streams. Under direct supervision of a higher level employee responsible for stream maintenance, an employee in this class performs manual tasks involving the use of stream maintenance tools and equipment. Work demands a knowledge of safety measures and efficient work methods as well as physical strength and agility to perform under adverse weather conditions. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists in the inspection of streams, creeks and brooks within the County drainage districts by carrying our required stream maintenance and cleansing procedures.
Maintains stream flows by removing debris and other industrial waste materials.
Performs a variety of manual maintenance procedures as directed by superiors, such as operating power equipment to cut grass and clean out tree blockage in streams.
Assists in the operation of equipment used in stream maintenance, such as,
winches, chain saws, and all other equipment operated in stream maintenance.
Operates mowers and hand equipment used in stream maintenance work to extract waste and maintain the flow of streams, creeks and brooks.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment employed in cleaning and maintaining streams.
Skill in the use of all tools utilized in stream maintenance.
Ability to learn the necessary safety precautions undertaken in stream maintenance work.
Ability and willingness to do heavy manual work.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
