DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The
work involves responsibility for maintaining the physical security
systems in the Onondaga County Justice Center in working order
allowing for the continuous operation of electronic locks, card
access systems, Closed Caption Television system, X-ray equipment
and uninterrupted power supply systems (UPS) for the safety of
staff, civilians and inmates. An employee in this class is
responsible for the maintenance and operation of the security
systems and X-ray inspection units keeping the proper personnel of
the Justice Center informed as to the status of all systems and the
documentation and implementation of preventive maintenance. Does
related work as required.
TYPICAL
WORK ACTIVITIES
Troubleshoots,
tests, adjusts, maintains, replaces, and repairs Programmable Logic
Controllers (PLC), which service all doors and communications
throughout the Justice Center as well as “man down”
alarm, and all physical aspects of the Application Programmable
Controller (APC) and UPS systems
Troubleshoots,
tests, adjusts, maintains, operates and instructs others in the
operation of magnetometer (metal detector), X-ray inspection, card
access system, CCTV cameras, equipment.
Builds and
operates electronic testing equipment to analyze and identifies
malfunctioning locking systems.
Works with local and
national vendors to modify available components and customizes their
electronics to work with the system in the Justice Center.
Troubleshoots,
test, adjust, maintain, replace, and repair all locks, gates, doors,
and other mechanical security fixtures and equipment, essential to
the secure operation of the Justice Center, as well as other
buildings operated by the Sheriff’s Office and other County
Public Safety Agencies, as directed.
Responsible for
cutting new and duplicate keys, as directed and authorized, and
maintain accurate records of those keys.
Coordinates with manufacturers and vendors on procurement of spare parts approved for purchase.
Works from elevated positions using step stools, ladders, man lifts and scaffolding
Operates electric and pneumatic power hand tools
Routinely carries or moves tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
FULL
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment
of the locksmith trade
Working
knowledge of department’s security procedures concerning the
issuance of keys and locks.
Working knowledge of X-ray
inspection equipment.
Ability to read mechanical and
structural blueprints.
Basic understanding of the daily
operations of a correctional facility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Open
Competitive:
Four
(4) years of experience, or its part-time equivalent, in a
correctional facility, maintaining electric locks, card access
systems and CCTV systems. Appointment is contingent on passing a
complete background check including fingerprint verification and
registration with the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services.
NOTE:
Conviction
of a felony or of any offense in any other jurisdiction which if
committed in this State would constitute a felony will bar
appointment. Conviction of a misdemeanor or of any offense in any
other jurisdiction which if committed in this state would constitute
a misdemeanor may bar appointment.
