SECURITY OFFICER (Competitive)

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

 

Patrols the buildings and grounds of Housing Projects to prevent crime and vandalism; investigates incidents occurring on Housing Authority property; performs related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CIASS

 

Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for patrolling and investigating incidents occurring on Housing Authority property. This involves handling and expediting management mad tenants complaints of juvenile delinquency, vandalism, destruction of Housing Authority property, and rule infraction. Work is reviewed through frequent conferences with superiors.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

 

Investigates crimes committed on Authority property in conjunction with the Police Department.

Investigates complaints by tenants concerning disturbances.

Patrols by foot or vehicle, housing project grounds and buildings, checks locks, broken windows, doors; requests repairs when necessary.

Posts unlicensed and unauthorized vehicles; when necessary, arranges for their removal.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Good knowledge of laws, codes and regulations pertinent to the Housing Authority.

Good knowledge of basic investigative techniques and procedures.

Ability to write thorough and comprehensive accident and investigation reports.

Ability to maintain and promote harmonious relations with tenants.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Permanent competitive status in the title of Police Officer or higher rank in the City of Syracuse Police Department.

 

NOTE: When Security Officers are employed on a part‑time or seasonal basis, their positions are allocated to the non‑competitive jurisdictional classifi­cation.
