DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is an appointment reserved to the Administrative Judge of the 5th Judicial District, and incumbents serve at the Administrative Judge's pleasure.
The work involves responsibility for performing a variety of non-legal duties under the direct supervision of the Administrative Judge of the 5th Judicial District. When the Administrative Judge manages the court related affairs of the 5th Judicial District, the incumbent is privy to classified information and has access to confidential, high level, decision making and must demonstrate tact and judgment in executing tasks. When the Administrative Judge serves as trail justice, the incumbent maintains order and decorum in the courtroom during proceedings, performs clerical and messenger duties, and reception and other related duties. Supervision is not a responsibility of an incumbent. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Has access to highly confidential information and is privy to high level decision making regarding the administration of court related affairs.
Performs routine clerical and messenger duties in attendance to the Administrative Judge when the latter manages the Court related affairs of the 5th Judicial District.
Travels with Administrative Judge and other judges to attend meetings and conferences regarding court related business of the 5th Judicial District.
When working as an Attendant to the Administrative Judge as Trial Justice:
Maintains order and decorum in courtroom, waiting rooms, and other court premises.
Ensures that the courtroom is prepared for court proceedings.
Responds to requests for general information from lawyers and the public, and directs visitors to locations in the courthouse.
Photocopies correspondence, memoranda, and other printed materials.
Picks up and delivers case folders, law books, documents and other materials.

Ability to handle sensitive matters on a confidential basis.
Ability to relate well with others.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to learn the functions and organization of the unified court system.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following are proposed pending the Jurisdictional Classification of Exempt by the New York State Civil Service Commission.
This is a confidential position, and qualifications are determined by the Administrative Judge 5th Judicial District.
