DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

The work involves responsibility for providing initial visitor contact services to

the public at a visitor center of Onondaga County Parks. The various duties include

greeting visitors, disseminating information, light cleaning, admissions, registration

or other related duties when requested. Supervision is received from an administrative superior. Supervision of employees is not a function of this class. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Greets visitors and assists them with general information.

Answers telephone, responding to general questions from the public.

Registers individuals and groups for special programs or tours.

Performs light cleaning such as sweeping and/or mopping floors, wiping counters, cleaning glass and dusting, cleaning restrooms.

Cares for plants in entry area of visitor center as well as seasonal flower boxes, planters and gardens.

Monitors and keeps brochure racks stocked.

Collects survey information as directed.

Records visitations and prepares simple reports as needed.

Occasionally collects admission fees, makes change, reconciles admission receipts, operates cash register and dispenses tickets to the public for admittance to the facilities.

Occasionally makes gift shop, booklet and merchandise sales; takes a locked bank deposit bag to the bank on occasion as a backup for another employee.

Ability to use tact and courtesy when dealing with the public.

Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.

Ability to perform simple custodial tasks.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
