The work involves responsibility for assisting in the organization, direction, and coordination of the athletic program in a school district. The work requires the exercise of independent judgment in interpreting athletic rules and regulations. An employee in this class reports directly to a school administrator who is in charge of the athletic program for the school district. Supervision is not a function of this class. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Interprets rules and regulations involving district, league and section athletics;
Trains coaching staff in the rules and regulations;
Assists with home game management and supervision;
Assists in compiling a master athletic schedule for practices, scrimmages, games, and facility use;
Communicates with school staff and outside groups regarding master schedule;
Attends league, section and state meetings and disseminates information to staff;
Assists Athletic Trainers in establishing safe operating procedures for the training room;
Assists with the development and implementation of the district athletic budget;
Performs clerical review of budget documents and prepares tabular reports;
Maintains website with up-to-date game and practice schedules;
Supervises after-school athletic activities, games and practices;
Assists in the development and maintenance of student athlete database related to athlete’s accomplishments, personal data, medical issues, and academic eligibility.
Assists with the maintenance of records of coaching certifications and trainings.
Thorough knowledge of league and section rules and regulations.
Good knowledge of league scheduling procedures.
Good knowledge or game administration procedures.
Working understanding of the budgeting process.
Organizational skills.
Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to interpret rules, policies and regulations.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with athletics staff and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience in an interscholastic sports program that included using knowledge of league and section rules and regulations (for example as a coach, assistant coach, coordinator or board member of youth sports league).
