DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF CLASS

 

The work involves responsibility for performing semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of swimming pools and their filtration systems. An employee in this class performs work, which approaches journey level work in trades associated with swimming pool and filtration system maintenance and repair. Assignments are usually received verbally, by work order, or arise in the daily maintenance of pools and filters. Employees in this class work under general supervision, with some independence and are judged by observation of the results of their work. Supervision may be exercised over laborers. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Cleans, fills and prepares pool for use at beginning of season; may replace tiles.

May sweep and scrub pool decks and make minor repairs.

May supervise laborers in the clean up, start up and filling of pool.

Vacuums and cleans pool regularly.

Makes minor repairs to pool such as replacement of loose or broken tiles.

Makes repairs to pool equipment such as diving boards, lifeguard stands, lane lines; may repair locker room equipment including baskets, lockers, etc.

Does regular preventive maintenance of pools and filter systems; cleans and services filter; may back wash filter; may service automatic chlorinating equipment by replacing pressure bottle of chlorine and recording chlorine use.

Takes chlorine and other chemical readings of pool water; may adjust chlorine levels.

Records pool temperature; adjusts pool temperature; does minor repair and maintenance on pool heating equipment.

May drive pool maintenance truck from facility to facility.

May keep simple logs of pool temperature, chemical readings, repairs completed or problems encountered.

Reports major breakdowns or repair needs; may turn off damaged equipment; cleans and cares for tools.

Good knowledge of the standard tools of pool and filter cleaning maintenance and repair.

Good knowledge of the procedures of pool filter, chlorination, and heating equipment maintenance.

Good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in pool maintenance work.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to work independently.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
