DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

The work involves professional level responsibility for providing resources assistance to the Syracuse City School District in the organization, analysis and evaluation of assessment and other school data, use of automated data retrieval systems, and other activities related to data-driven decision-making. The encumbent serves as the Syracuse City School District liaison to the Regional Information Center as well as evaluating the school districts’ needs in terms of available Syracuse City School District programs and provides technical assistance to staff of the Syracuse City School District in the implementation of programs. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Designs, maintains, and uses data resources as required.

Provides assistance to the Syracuse City School District in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data (including but not limited to New York State Education Department state assessment data, student demographics, etc.) for the purpose of school and student improvement.

Provides staff development opportunities for administrators and others in the use and analysis of student/program data to improve student performance and programs.

Provides evaluation coordination for districts involved in grants; including but not limited to data collection and analyses via surveys, observation, and review of archival data.

Constructs and provides models of analysis for national, state and local student performance measures.

Constructs and provides models of analysis for national, state and local teacher performance measures in accordance with new teacher evaluation requirements.

Provides lay language summaries of State Education Department and other association reports and memos focusing on assessment and student data.

Serves as Syracuse City School District liaison to the Regional Information Center in the ongoing collection of district data, review of assessment reports, data warehousing efforts, use of data extraction tools, etc.

Assists the Syracuse City School District in the development of regional performance reports and in the preparation of supplemental materials related to the School Report Card.

Conducts surveys and data analyses of high interest concerns.

May perform as a lead worker to other team members.

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of statistical analyses and evaluation design.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Promotion:

Open Competitive:

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited NYS registered college or university with a Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Psychology, Statistics, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Research, Education, Sociology, Political Science or Psychology or a closely related field and one (1) year of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in evaluating education systems or institutional research and planning which includes research, evaluation, data collection and analysis; OR,

  2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered community college with a Bachelor’s degree in (A) above and two (2) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in evaluating education systems or institutional research and planning which includes research, evaluation, data collection and analysis; OR,

  3. Six (6) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in evaluating education systems or institutional research and planning which includes research, evaluation, data collection and analysis.
