The work involves responsibility for performing Professional medical services work in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients. Methods of diagnosis and treatment of patients should be appropriate with current professional medical knowledge and facilities available to the physician. Medical supervision is provided to insure adherence to established policies and procedures. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate employees. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Diagnoses and treats patients.

Acts as a staff physician for a hospital, clinic or other medical facility

under the auspices of Onondaga County Government.

Supervises interns, residents and various clerical personnel.

Consults with case workers on problems related to medical care.

Prepares and conducts in‑service training programs and provides medical

consultation to nurses.

Prepares or supervises the compilation of periodic medical reports.

Attends conferences and meetings as required.

Acts as liaison between a medical program or service, other programs and

the community.

Acts as health consultant to local Physicians, schools, hospitals and other

organizations concerned with a specific medical program.

Performs diagnostic X‑ray work as required.

Gives injections and inoculations as required.

Refers patients to proper agency or private Physicians for treatment.

Prepares records and reports as required.

Depending on assignment, may examine children in clinics or make ward

rounds with nurses in a long term care facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Graduation from a medical school recognized by the New York State Education Department with a degree as a Medical Doctor.

 

SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT

 

Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State within six (6) months of appointment.
