The work involves responsibility for coordinating and conducting training in behavioral interventions to area school districts. A Coordinated School Health Network (CSHN) Training Specialist provides assistance to school providers including nurses, social workers, and counselors. The work is performed under the general supervision of the CSHN Coordinator. Certain assignments made to employees in this class will require reasonable access to transportation to meet fieldwork requirements made in the ordinary course of business in a timely and efficient manner. An employee in this class typically does not exercise supervision. Does related work as required.
Coordinates training and technical assistance to support implementation of a school wide system of positive behavioral interventions and supports for all students.
Provides parent involvement strategies to project sites.
Facilitates the development and maintenance of linkages with schools and existing mental health services for children and families.
Conducts regional and statewide training in positive behavioral interventions to school based providers including nurses, social workers, and counselors.
Provides support to identified “coaches” in the school setting.
Replicates successful school-based mental health collaborations and assists existing sites to build capacity.
Organizes a database for participating regional sites.
Thorough knowledge of mental illness issues and their impact on students in an educational setting.
Good knowledge of child and adolescent development and behavioral interventions.
Working knowledge of community agencies, facilities and services that may be utilized to help students.
Good organizational skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to conduct training and present informational workshops.
Ability to work as a team player in an office setting.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Masters degree in Human Services, Nursing, Social Work, Special Education, Counseling, or closely related field, and three (3) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent working directly with students in a school district.
