DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for and the supervision of the preparation and maintenance of real property tax maps for Onondaga County which includes the responsibility and maintenance of a complete parcel record and mapping system and the coordination of work with the County and municipal agencies. General supervision is exercised over a number of technical staff and received from an administrative superior. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Establishes methods of organization used in preparation of tax maps.
Interprets research data for legal documents and applies proper drafting and mapping procedures to produce a tax map.
Supervises the preparation and maintenance of tax maps with the Onondaga County Department of Finance.
Uses computer aided software to prepare tax maps and update tax maps to reveal property changes.
Provides information to and assists assessors, real property office, state agencies, surveyors, attorneys and the general public.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, ABILITES AND PERSONAL CHARTACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of principles and methods of examining titles to real property.
Thorough knowledge of computer aided software principles and techniques used in the preparation and production of tax maps.
Good knowledge of property recording systems and assessment record systems.
Good knowledge of principles used in plotting real property tax maps.
Ability to prepare accurate composite property maps.
Ability to supervise technical personnel in a manner conductive to full performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Promotion:
Two years (2) of permanent competitive class status as Tax Map Technician I or Tax Map Technician II.
Open Competitive:
Four (4) years of full time work experience or its part time equivalent in the preparation of real property maps utilizing principals of computer aided design or geographic information software which must have included researching and interpreting real property documents.
NOTE: Successful completion of one year of a course in computer aided design software or geographic information systems may be substituted for one (1) year of above described work experience.
