WATER SYSTEMS ENGINEER I
(Competitive)
This is entry level professional engineering work involving responsibility to assist in the operation of a municipal water supply system. Under direct supervision, an employee in this class applies the principles of civil and sanitary engineering to the design of the water supply system and distribution facilities, assists in the preparation of budgets and the Compilation of data for reports. Assignments are received through conferences and work is reviewed in progress and upon completion. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of employees. Does related work as required.
Assists in engineering investigations and design work relative to the water supply system, such as new feeder mains, reservoir repairs, booster pumping stations and water supply conservation.
Assists in the preparation of operating and capital budgets, cost estimates, financial statements and contracts that pertain to the Division of Water.
Assists in compiling reports on water quality and water system performance as required by regulatory agencies.

Good knowledge of the principles and practices of civil and sanitary engineering as applied to water supply systems.
Good knowledge of sanitary engineering as applied to water distribution facilities.
Ability to solve engineering problems.
Ability to plan, design and. monitor‑ engineering work.
Ability to understand and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Ability to prepare and monitor the expenditure of budgets.
Ability to prepare reports.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a baccalaureate degree in chemical, civil, sanitary or mechanical engineering and one (1) year of professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, in applying engineering principles and practices to the design, maintenance or construction of public works; or,
B. Five (5) years of paraprofessional or professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, in chemical, civil, sanitary, or mechanical engineering, one (1) year of which must have been professional level experience in applying engineering principles to the design construction or maintenance of public works; or,
C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
