DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

Performs technical field work in inspecting engineering projects. Under supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for inspecting a variety of engineering projects to insure compliance with the legal regulations and prescribed specifications. Employees are expected to make independent decisions requiring technical discretion. Successful job performance requires detailed knowledge of construction procedures and materials. Work is subject to review by professional engineering personnel. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Performs on-site inspections of construction work performed by contractors to insure that contract specifications are being adhered to.

Attends construction meetings.

Prepares a variety of documents including logs, reports, payment documentation, etc.

Processes change order documentation.

Reviews and approves payments for projects.

Performs field surveys and measurements incidental to design and construction activities.

Assists construction inspectors as required.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

 

Good knowledge of the principles, methods and equipment common to construction projects.

Good knowledge of engineering techniques essential to proper layout of work and establishing accurate elevations.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to read and interpret a variety of blue prints, plans, and specifications applicable to construction work.

Ability to make detailed technical inspections and to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Two (2) years of experience in engineering construction work.

 

SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT

 

Possession of a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
