ENGINEERING PROJECT COORDINATOR 10170
This work involves responsibility for performing technical fieldwork in inspecting and coordinating engineering projects. Under supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for inspecting and coordinating a variety of engineering projects to insure compliance with the legal regulations and prescribed specifications. Successful job performance requires detailed knowledge of construction procedures and materials as well as storm water management techniques. An employee in this class will coordinate projects, engineering studies and investigations ranging in scope such as sidewalk, street and curb inspection, land surveying, street restoration and street construction work as well as exercise supervision over subordinates engaged in said projects. Employees are expected to make independent decisions requiring technical discretion. The successful incumbent will demonstrate initiative and operate with latitude for independent judgment under general supervision received from the Superintendent of Street Repair. Does related work as required.
Performs on-site inspections of construction work performed by contractors to insure that contract specifications are being adhered to.
Attends construction meetings.
Prepares/maintains a variety of documents including logs, reports, payment documentation, etc.
Processes change order documentation.
Reviews and approves payments for projects.
Performs field surveys and measurements incidental to design and construction activities.
Inspect all phases of construction to ensure proper and acceptable materials are being used and work is being performed according to plans.
Checks for possible hazards during construction
Plans, schedules and supervises the work of construction inspectors, and engineering staff in the field.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of site work construction and inspection.
Good knowledge of the principles, methods and equipment common to construction projects.
Good knowledge of engineering techniques essential to proper layout of work and establishing accurate elevations.
Good knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision
Good knowledge of the procedures, methods, materials, equipment and safety precautions used in the repair and maintenance of streets, curbs and sidewalks.
Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions exercised in construction work.
Ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, and municipal officials.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret a variety of blue prints, plans, and specifications applicable to construction work.
Ability to make detailed technical inspections and to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
Ability to plan, direct, coordinate and effectively supervise the work of subordinate employees.
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a baccalaureate degree in engineering science, engineering technology, construction technology, architecture or a closely related field: or,
Four (4) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in structural analysis and design, construction inspection, or construction management, which must have included the review of contracts and specifications; or,
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
