DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct supervision of the
Closed Circuit Television Operator, an employee in this class
assists in the operation of closed circuit television equipment in
sewer line inspections which utilize television equipment to monitor
sewer lines and is responsible for assisting the operation and
maintenance of the equipment. An employee in this class is expected
to set up and check safety equipment; perform light manual work in
the set up and operation of generators and cameras; monitor
motorized winches used in television inspection of sewer lines; and,
direct traffic to prevent damage to equipment or personnel. County
employees in this class may be promoted to this level directly from
sewer maintenance or inspection positions pending completion of an
in-house training program in the principles and practices of closed
circuit television operation. Work is assigned by the Sewer
Maintenance Supervisor and reviewed by the Closed Circuit Television
Operator. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Tests equipment needed for job, such as
cameras, generators, monitor and motorized winches, to insure proper
working order.
Sets up safety equipment, winches, and
shoes which protect cable pipe from ripping.
Hangs cable
from electric winch between two manholes.
Attaches
camera to electric winch cables for photographing of sewer line.
Pulls camera through the sewer line to the distance set
on the footage meter for photographing.
Cleans and makes
necessary repairs to equipment, such as generators, monitors and
motorized winches.
Cleans reel brushes to insure a
better picture on the television screen.
Operates a
variety of machines to keep sewer lines free from obstructions, such
as hydraulic cleaning machines, mechanical bucket machines, rodding
equipment, and other equipment used to provide service for house
laterals.
Keeps accurate records of sewer inspections as
required.
Directs traffic while sewer line is being
photographed to protect equipment and personnel.
Periodically
inspects vehicles (gas, oil, water, etc.) to insure proper working
order.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES
AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of sewer
operations and maintenance.
Some knowledge of the
methods and equipment used in sewer inspections.
Some
knowledge of safe operating procedures utilized in sewer inspection.
Ability to learn to operate closed circuit television
equipment to inspect sewer lines.
Ability to make minor
electrical and mechanical repairs to sewer inspection equipment.
Ability to set up and test the proper working order of
all sewer inspection equipment.
Ability to follow oral
and written instruction.
Physical ability to pull camera
through the sewer line.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A)
One (1) year of full time work experience in design, maintenance,
inspection, or construction of wastewater and drainage facilities;
or,
B) One (1) year of full time work experience in the
operation, maintenance, and repair of television or related large
scale electronic equipment.
SPECIAL NECESSARY
REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid New York State Motor
Vehicle Operator's license.
