DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

The work involves responsibility for reproducing audio and visual recordings, slides, and video media on various formats. Under immediate supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for the reproduction of audio and visual recordings from live performance, and/or radio and television programs. Duplicate copies are also reproduced from original audio and video media. Materials reproduced are used primarily for the classroom, library media center, cable TV, or for community projects. Does related work as required.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Operates various audio playback/recording machines to record music, dialogue, or sound effects from recording sessions, electronic media broadcasts/cable casts, training courses and other events as directed.

Records television programs on various video formats.

May record various events through the use of various video recording devices and/or camcorders.

Photographs pictures and/or slides with a variety of photographic equipment.

Reproduces recordings from master recordings using various audio devices.

Monitors and edits audio and video recordings; edits all recorded works with various types of editing equipment with direction from the client regarding content of the material.

May label and catalogue films, audio, and video recordings.

May maintain a file of photographs, stock analogue and other digital media or resources.

May develop and produce photos, analogue or other digital media as needed.

May maintain a small audio-visual library.

May perform minor maintenance on equipment.

May be responsible for arranging commercial media rentals.

May work directly with staff members and students providing instruction in equipment operation.

May set up portable and built-in public address and other sound systems.

May operate lighting control boards.

May be responsible for producing cable TV programming.

May be responsible for audio and video streaming.

 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

 

Working knowledge of a variety of audio and video recording machines.

Working knowledge of still photographic equipment and techniques.

Working knowledge of various editing and dubbing techniques.

Working knowledge of audio amplifiers, mixers, and microphones and how they interconnect.

Working knowledge of lighting systems, and lighting techniques.

Ability to maintain a small audio-visual library.

Ability to keep records of inventory, film rentals, video recording schedules, and equipment loans.

Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other personnel.

Ability to make minor repairs and periodic minor maintenance on all equipment.

Ability to setup and teardown equipment as needed.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate's Degree in Audio-Visual technology, communications technology, educational communications, broadcast or television production or technology, or a closely related field that focuses on the use and maintenance of studio and field production and recording equipment; or,

 

B) Two (2) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the operation of a variety of audio visual equipment, i.e., audio playback/recording machines, still photographic equipment, and video playback/recording/editing machines; or,

 

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
