DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

The work involves responsibility for the design, implementation, and execution of programs to encourage business and industry to locate in Onondaga County. This is high-level administrative and managerial work which requires; leadership skills to coordinate public and private sector groups and officials devoted to the revitalization of Syracuse and Onondaga County; the ability to apply business and economic principles and practices to attract new industry, increase employment, and serve business through loans and other means; and, creativity and ingenuity in negotiating and financing commercial and industrial development. Supervision of subordinate staff may be performed by an employee in this class. Does related work as required.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Plans, organizes and implements programs to encourage business and industry to locate within Onondaga County by utilizing sources of business information and applying accepted methods, current trends, and economic principles related to industrial development and location.

Negotiates financial, real estate, and other terms and conditions of business and industrial location.

Coordinates diverse groups, individuals, and officials of the public and private sector to produce cooperative efforts that result in revitalization of specific areas of the county as measured by amount of new industry, numbers of increased employment opportunities, and numbers of businesses served through loan and other economic packages.

Represents Onondaga County government in business, governmental, and legislative meetings.

This is an Exempt Class position, therefore, no minimum training and/or experience qualifications have been established for this position.
