DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is supervisory work involving responsibility for the ordering, receipt, storage and distribution of a wide variety of goods associated with a municipality. The goods involved are automotive parts, equipment, tools, office equipment, water works commodities, construction materials, uniforms and related goods necessary to support the work of the department. Under general supervision of an administrative superior, an employee in this class maintains complete and accurate records of all items ordered, in stock and issued and insure the security of inventories of the storeroom. Direct supervision is exercised over a Storekeeper. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Orders the purchase of a wide variety of items upon request or to maintain an adequate inventory; specifies the type and quantity to be purchased and may suggest certain vendors for specialized items.
Contacts local vendors, refers to catalogues and uses a variety of sources when ordering unusual or specialized items in order to clearly describe such items; contacts buyers by telephone or in person regarding such items.
Receives and checks incoming stock to verify that deliveries comply with purchase orders; issues a receiving slip for deliveries accepted to authorize vendor payments; contacts vendors to arrange for the return of unacceptable deliveries.
Records or supervises the recording on inventory cards of all items received, date of delivery, invoice numbers, vendor, etc.
Performs and supervises periodic physical inventories of existing stock; periodically spot checks inventory cards and stores issued forms to ensure that these records are being properly maintained.
Good knowledge of the methods and procedures of storekeeping and inventory control.
Good knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to keep accurate inventory records and make reports from these records.
Ability to make accurate arithmetical computations.
Ability to supervise in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
When Assigned to the North Syracuse School District
May perform the duties of a Stock Attendant, such as assisting in the receiving, storing and dispersing of supplies, unpacking and storing goods and supplies and delivering supplies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Promotion:
One (1) year of permanent competitive class status in the title of Storekeeper.
Open-Competitive:
Four (4) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in receiving, requisitioning, storing or shipping store items.
