DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

The work involves responsibility for designing, building, and maintaining Office Automation systems for County Departments. This includes networks, servers, data bases, and security. An employee in class ensures that the county network is running and secure. Supervision is exercised over Office Automation Analysts and other Information Technology staff. Supervision is received by the Operations System Manager. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Meets with user departments to determine office automation hardware and software requirements.

Reviews office automation hardware and software for cost and conformance to standards.

Designs networks that have connectivity over multiple paths and ensures that private information remains secure.

Evaluates new hardware and software products with technical support section of the department.

Acts as liaison between end users and vendors on support issues.

Develops and maintains office automation policies and standards.

Corrects problems occurring with open system applications, both hardware and software.

Configures, installs, and monitors server hardware and software.

Works with technical support on open system security issues.

 

WHEN ASSIGNED TO THE ONONDAGA COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT:

 

Participates in public health preparedness activities as trained and assigned.

Thorough knowledge of Information Technology systems, principles and methods of application.

Thorough knowledge of a selection of various office automation products such as personal computer hardware and software.

Thorough knowledge of department security policies.

Ability to evaluate user departments hardware and software needs.

Ability to learn and use new hardware and software products and to adapt to new concepts.

Ability to supervise Information Technology staff.

Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to users.

Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with other Information Technology staff and user departments.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

PROMOTION

 

One (1) year of permanent competitive class status in the title of Office Automation Analyst.

 

OPEN COMPETITIVE

 

A. Five (5) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent in systems or computer programming or product consulting, or;

 

B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a baccalaureate Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, and one (1) year of work experience, or its part-time equivalent in systems or computer programming or product consulting, or;

 

C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
