DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

 

This position is responsible for the development, operation and support of Enterprise applications across an organization. Work includes application development and support, problem resolution, and project planning for new or existing applications. Coordinates the work effort of application and other staff involved in these initiatives, but is not responsible for exercising direct supervision. Supervision is received from an Application Program Manager or other supervising management staff. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Coordinates the efforts of application and departmental staff in the development and support of software applications across an organization.

Designs, develops and coordinates software changes within a particular application.

Plans and executes software application projects from definition to implementation.

Works with management in planning work schedules to meet operating demands and programming commitments.

Conducts user meetings for implementation and enhancement processes.

Performs acceptance testing, quality assurance and program review for assigned systems/projects.

Conducts thorough problem analysis, document findings and propose/implement problem resolution alternatives.

Thorough knowledge of current Enterprise or other County wide application systems, policies for operation and support and procedures for operation.

Thorough knowledge of web programming, object oriented programming and ERP development and configuration.

Good knowledge of the needs of County departments.

Demonstrated knowledge in project planning, task management, estimating assignments and scope of work.

Ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment to arrive at conclusions.

Ability to solve problems through the use of logic.

Thorough knowledge of electronic data systems analysis.

Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to work well with others.

Ability to adapt to change.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Promotional: One (1) year of permanent competitive class status in the title of Enterprise Design Specialist.

 

Open Competitive:

 

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Computer Science or closely related field and five (5) years of experience or its part time equivalent in supporting an Enterprise System or other software system which is used to provide core services across an organization and on which other applications are dependent on; or,
     

  2. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field and seven (7) years of experience or its part time equivalent in supporting an Enterprise System or other software system which is used to provide core services across an organization and on which other applications are dependent on; or,
     

  3. Nine (9) years of experience or its part time equivalent in supporting an Enterprise System or other software system which is used to provide core services across an organization and on which other applications are dependent on.
     

Note: Certifications such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows NT, or Novell from an accredited college, university or other approved agency may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
