The work involves responsibility for isolating and identifying problems occurring within the network of data processing equipment and software and for recording and reporting identified problems to the responsible area. Responsibility also includes monitoring history of problems and changes within the network to determine follow-up actions necessary and coordination of changes with all department sections and user departments. Supervision is received from the higher-level administrator. Does related work as required.
Receives and monitors electronic data processing equipment and software execution failures and isolates and identifies problems.
Records such problems in an on-line data base and reports same problems to responsible control areas for corrective action.
Develops follow-up procedures and monitors completion of problem analysis and correction.
Records all changes concerning network including hardware and software.
Coordinates implementation of changes with the responsible department sections and user departments.
Develops overall change implementation procedures with concern for maintaining smooth flow of the network.
Prepares reports for management to reflect status of current problems and changes.
Conducts meetings with management concerning problems and changes status.
Good knowledge of all phases of data processing and data processing equipment.
Good knowledge of departmental procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with network users and technicians and vendors when defining problem situations.
Ability to compile information in a comprehensive manner.
Ability to work independently with little supervision.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Open Competitive:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an associates degree in Data Processing and one (1) year of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the installation, maintenance or operation of electronic data processing equipment, or in information systems problem management and user support; or,
B) Three (3) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in the field of data and information gathering and compilation, one (1) year of which must have involved as a major function of the job the installation, maintenance or operation of electronic data processing equipment, or information systems problem management and user support; or,
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
