The work involves responsibility for implementation and upgrading of software for local area networks and microcomputer applications software. An employee in this class installs, operates and maintains personal computer software. Supervision is received from an Administrative Superior. Performs related work as required.
Installs and maintains software (including upgrades) on local area networks (LAN) workstations and stand-alone personal computers.
Evaluates and makes recommendations for software purchase.
Troubleshoots software application problems on personal computers.
Provides phone/email support of software applications to customers.
Assists customers in the proper use of personal computers.
Assists in the creation of presentation materials utilizing appropriate software packages.
Assists with mass duplication of software, when necessary.
Assists with tape/diskette data transfer.
Prepares documentation for users of personal computers that provides directions for use of electronic office and administrative software.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the use and operation of personal computers and related peripheral equipment.
Working knowledge of office terminology and procedures.
Ability to adapt purchased software to existing applications.
Ability to operate a personal computer and peripheral equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to plan and schedule personal computer training activities.
Ability to instruct others in the use and adaptability of personal computers and purchased software.
Ability to convert old databases and software to new operating systems when possible.
Ability to work well with others.
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Baccalaureate Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field; or
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associates Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, and two (2) years of experience, or its part time equivalent in the implementation and upgrading of software using a personal computer or peripheral equipment as a primary job function; or,
C. Four (4) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in the implementation and upgrading of software using a personal computer or peripheral equipment as a primary job function; or
D. An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
