SCHOOL AUDITOR
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs professional accounting work in auditing financial and accounting records in all departments of a school district; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under supervisions the employee in this class applies specialized accounting methods in making audits of the records in school departments, bureaus and agencies. A variety of technical problems are resolved by the exercise of sound professional judgment consistent with audit standards established by statutory requirements and regulations. Conferences and review of reports review Work.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Audits payrolls for all professional and non‑professional personnel. Maintains records of all capital accounts including authorizations
revenues, contracts and performance bonds and retainers.
Supervises the maintenance and reconciliation of a number of separate bank accounts.
Reviews budget balances in connection with the auditing of vouchers to guard against depletion of budget accounts.
Maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment for which the school district is accountable.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods used in accounting and bookkeeping.
Good knowledge of the principles and practices used in auditing financial records.
Good knowledge of standard business office methods and practices.
Some knowledge of machine accounting and the ability to establish programs and procedures for its use.
Ability to prepare concise, complex reports.
Ability to perform numeric and written detail work.
Ability to make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
